For those of you who have done VBS this year you are familiar with the song "Wiki Wiki". Its a fun and creative way to help share the ABC's of becoming a Christian with the children. That is the task ahead of us here on Day 3 of VBS at Clearwater Bay. We are here to communicate to these children that Jesus is the Only Way to God, through music, drama, scripture, teaching, recreation, and however else we can think of.
Our work here has been incredibly smooth. God has definitely gone ahead of us in this venture. I am reminded of Acts 18:9-10 which says " The the Lord said to Paul in a night vision, "Don't be afraid, but keep on speaking and don't be silent. For I am with you, and no one will lay a hand on you to hurt you, because I have many people in this city."
God indeed has many people in the city of Hong Kong. I met a man yesterday at the University where we are having lunch each day. This man is a visiting scholar from the University of Georgia, with a PhD. in Biology. He is Chinese but is from Malaysia and is in Hong Kong teaching for two years. He told me how he uses his classroom as a platform for sharing his faith in Jesus. He shared with me how he came to faith in Christ while studying at the University of Georgia. It was incredible to me that such a "random" meeting would occur. But of course when you belive firmly in the sovereignty of God, nothing is random.
Anyway, there are so many details I wish I could include in this post, but writing this blog is not our primary purpose in Hong Kong. That purpose is to partner with a local church in telling people about Jesus. And, with God's leading and power (Acts 1:8) we are doing just that.

God of this City
"You're the God of this city, You're the King of these people
You're the Lord of this nation, You are
Greater things are yet to come,
Greater things are still to be done in this city"
These are just some of the lyrics from a worship song entitled "God of this City" which was written by a band as they played in Thailand and witnessed all the spiritual oppression there.
John 1:50 says "Jesus responded to him, "Do you believe only because I told you I saw you under the fig tree? You will see greater things that this."
We've been in Hong Kong now for four days and I can truly say that each day has been a day of "greater things" than the one before. God has been truly faithful to us. We are blesses to have Janice, a member of Clearwater Bay International Baptist Church where we are having our VBS this week. She has taken a week off of work to be our host on this trip, arranging everything from transportation to meals. I had the joy of meeting this wonderful young woman last year in Hong Kong, and it is a privilege to serve with her this year.
We attended Worship at Clearwater Bay on Sunday, first in Mandarin and then an English service. During the English service the Pastor, Nigel, gave a great sermon that captured both the intellect as well as the spirit. I was asked to share a brief testimony with the church so I decided to talk about the importance of the local church. Interestingly, Lynette was asked to share as well and when we talked about what we would each say we both felt lead to talk about the church. In fact we were both planning to read from Revelation 19:6-8. God is so intentional in the way that he does things. Anyway, it was cool for me because I was able to give testimony in a church in the Virgin Islands on the very first BBC mission journey I was a part of. Then, two years later I was asked to preach in that same church. What a privilege to experience God's faithfullness to the call he has placed on my life.
Right now we are in the middle of Day 2 of VBS, where we are teaching that Jesus is God's Son. Look for more posts soon from other team members as they share their thoughts and experiences from the week.
